Spiders are highly adaptable creatures that can survive for extended periods without food. Depending on the species, environment, and size, spiders can go weeks to months without eating. Some larger species, like tarantulas, can survive up to two years without food under optimal conditions.

Factors Affecting a Spider’s Survival Without Food

Species Type – Some spiders, like house spiders, can last a few weeks without food, while desert-dwelling species and tarantulas have evolved to survive months or even years without eating.

Size and Metabolism – Larger spiders with slower metabolisms can endure longer without food compared to smaller, more active species that require frequent feeding.

Access to Water – While spiders can go a long time without food, they need water to survive. Dehydration can kill them faster than starvation.

Environmental Conditions – Spiders in cooler environments can slow their metabolism, extending their survival time without food.

Even though spiders can survive long periods without food, they prefer to catch prey regularly. If a spider is in your home and not finding food, it may eventually move to a better hunting ground or enter a state of dormancy.
