The Fugoo 2.0 portable Bluetooth speakers are revised and updated versions of the three original Fugoo speakers. Although they look identical to the originals, there are some significant changes to the specs, performance, and prices.
The Fugoo 2.0 speakers come in three flavors: Sport, Style, and Tough. Fugoo sent both the Style and Sport model for review. I did not receive the slightly more expensive Tough 2.0 speaker. I tested the Sport and Style both alone and together. I was also able to compare them to the original Fugoo speakers.
One of the big advantages of the original Fugoo speakers was their quality. They were heavy for their size, solidly built, and had an unheard of 40 hours battery life. You could manhandle the speakers with little worry about them breaking. Heck, I shoved them into the mud, threw them into the salty Cocoa Beach surf, and dropped them repeatedly during use. All three speakers still work as well as when they were new. Pretty impressive for a (then) new speaker maker.
The speakers can double as speaker-phones with their built-in mics. I only tried this feature once. As with most other Bluetooth speakers with mic functions, the person I talked with said I sounded bad on their end. This is why I never use my Bluetooth speakers for making calls.
Reviewers tend to really enjoy how the UE Boom 2 sounds and they consistently have it as their top or nearly top pick for small Bluetooth speakers. They say that it delivers even bass, as well as even, crisp details in the mids and highs. Most think that it outperforms even the more-expensive Bose Soundlink Revolve in terms of delivering solid bass and not distorting at high volumes.
As with the Fugoo Sport, the UE Boom 2 is completely waterproof and can survive 30 minutes underwater. And it too is reported to survive drops and other abuse by weirdos who do such things to their speakers in order to write Amazon reviews of their experiences.
Tried the Bose soundlink revolve for a few hours, good for classical maybe, sounded like shit with Pop. Especially so when compared with my fugoo, vocals are cleaner on the latter. So no thanks, Bose.
As mentioned above, and as is always the case with Bluetooth speakers, the surface you place the Fugoo on is going to have a dramatic effect on sound quality, as will the surfaces surrounding it. Taking a little time to play with positioning the speaker will definitely benefit your listening experience.
Critical Meta-Review: The Differences Between Fugoo Speakers and Which Is Right for WhomThe most important thing to note when comparing these speakers is that the core of the Tough, Sport, and Style speakers is actually the same, whereas the Style-S is a bit bigger and has its own configuration of drivers and sound.

There are plenty of Bluetooth speakers available, but not all of them are ruggedized to withstand the elements. More outdoor-ready models are springing up, though, and Fugoo is taking its design to a more portable standard.
The Go immediately goes into pairing mode when powered on, making it easy to connect with a phone or tablet. For the Go, Fugoo added the ability to pair two speakers simultaneously, toggling between double and stereo mode. Double mode mirrors playback to both speakers, whereas stereo separates them into left and right channels.
Controls are pretty straightforward, too. The included startup guide notes how to skip tracks and get quick feedback on specific points. Holding the main circle button for five seconds adjusts the EQ. Pressing the battery button will trigger a voice announcing the current level. Pressing the Bluetooth and minus buttons toggles between double and stereo modes when two speakers are paired together.
Reducing the number of drivers inside shows when the Go is pushed beyond its default volume level of 50 percent. The other Fugoo speakers can go loud with an obvious tipping point that roars in the distortion, and the Go follows that pattern. The good news is that it can be quite loud for its size, easily filling a small area by the pool or on the beach. Where it has to compete with ambient noise, it can more than hold its own.
The Marshall Middleton ($299) is the company's latest addition to its lineup of guitar amp-inspired Bluetooth speakers, and it's available starting January 31 at marshallheadphones.com. The Middleton, as its name somewhat suggests, sits in the middle of the Marshall portable family -- it shares the same rectangular shape as the Emberton II but is heavier and more powerful than the Stockton II.
What makes the Middleton stand out is its unique quad-driver configuration, which places speakers on all four sides. There are two full-range drivers, each with its own 20-watt amplifier, and two tweeters, powered by a pair of 10-watt amps. The Middleton uses the same \"true stereophonic\" system as the Emberton II to achieve what the company calls multidirectional, 360-degree stereo sound.
For our purposes, we're focusing on Bluetooth speakers that are portable, battery-powered, and may also have built-in Wi-Fi capabilities for maximum home-and-away versatility (like the Sonos Roam and Move), because that's what we think you searched for before landing here. For a less rigid roundup, we also have a list of the best wireless speakers, which runs more of a gamut.
